King Edward VII arrival at Dovercourt Station on the 19th May 1905
Edward VII (1841-1910) was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and King from 1901-1910, who visited Dovercourt in 1905. This oak framed photograph, was used for several local postcards, to later commemorate the King's visit.
The King arrived at 4:18 and was formally greeted by Colonel Coke of the Norfolk Military, during their fortnight's annual training at Harwich. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the local militia. In the evening before returning to London, the King dined with his officers in the "Alexandra Hotel" in Marine Parade, now "Alexandra House".
