Bell's Photo Company Limited
Mainly Covering the Reign of King George V 1911 - 1935
One of the best early twentieth century photographers that came to the Harwich Area was Bell's Photo Company of Westcliff-on-Sea, I have attempted to catalogue and date the postcards produced by Bell's. Each of their postcards has a five or six digit number, starting with "29454...through to 139693". So far, I have identified a sequence of 63 numbers and from that sequence, have found and scanned most as below. The evidence so far points to these photographs all having been taken in the reign of Edward the VII through to George VI (1907 - 1947), However later cards have been seen without numbering.
Bell's took photographs not only of the Sea Front, Harbour and the Street's, but also of the Schools, Station and the Post Office, so creating an invaluable picture of the town.
Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find a catalogue of Bell's postcards.
How you can help
Please add a comment and email me if you can help with the following:
If you know of a catalogue of Bell's postcards
If you can date any of these images
If you are a postcard collector and have additional images of Harwich, Dovercourt & Parkeston, I would be very grateful for copies of those.
If you own any Bell's postcards that have been postally used, then it would be a great help to us to know the date of posting.
Thank you.
