The creek close to the old Train Ferry Terminal is known as "Gas House Creek". It originally provided access to the Gas Works (but now demolished). It also was used by fishermen and the original site of "Cann's Yard" where the finest Thames barges were built in around 1900.

Mr J.W.Holmes Deputy Harbour Master 1901-1924, with Mr Bradman (Engineer/Boatman) and dog wait outside the new premises of the Conservancy Board, which adjoins Naval House in King's Quay Street.
The building was demolished in 1960 to make way for the Navyard Wharf. Mr Holmes died in 1922.
Captain Muter was the Harbour Master.
