The 1920's was a period of great change for Dovercourt, particularly along the sea front with the extension of the promenade and creation of the tourist attractions such as the swimming pool and the boating lakes. However much of the original pathways, gardens and steps were already beginning to show their age, as can be seen in this quite rare postcard. These cards covering the years 1902 - 1928 show the changes prior to the enclosure of the Bandstand in 1929. This limited investment in the pathways and slopes, led to slippage, erosion and eventual loss of these steps as seen later in the early 1970's.
