The Hangings, Dovercourt in 1921, A classic "Wallis" Postcard
The "Hangings" follows the route of an old disused railway line, running between Parkeston Road (near Lidl's) and Dovercourt Station.
Originally this was part of the Eastern Counties Railway route to Wrabness, which opened 1854 and closed in 1882.
The two bridges in Parkeston Road date from around 1870.
The name of the route, is thought to been derived from the overhanging trees, which shelter the path and make for a pleasant walk, on a fine day.
The Hangings has always attracted visitors some unwelcome, with tree swings, dens, bottle diggers, fly-tippers and of course the odd unlicensed motorbike.
This postcard is yet another "real photograph" from the famous Wallis publishers, who produced cards from around 1910 to the late 1930's.
