01 120865 The Bandstand at Night, Dovercourt (1928) By Bells H&D FW
Around 1928, the existing bandstand built by the Co-operative in 1904, was partly enclosed to provide a protective shelter, from the weather and "salt n spray" of the North Sea.
The council also provided additional seating and deck chairs, for the growing number of visitors to the resort.
However this new enclosure, proved so popular, that it was further enhanced in 1931, with the construction on the Cliff Pavilion, including a stage, that replaced the original bandstand. Sadly the Cliff Pavilion was finally demolished in 1972.
