02 A very early postcard of Dovercourt Bay (1900) H&D FW
Note the Bandstand built in 1901, is not yet present.
This very early Dovercourt postcard captured a view, that remained virtually unchanged for a century. It's an iconic location for both amateur and professional photographers alike, with in excess of over a hundred postcards produced, with almost identical views (which may make it, the most photographed spot in the Harwich and Dovercourt area).
I have tried to split these postcards, into two distinct periods, the “pre 1930” and “post 1930”, mainly due to the changing horizon, with the arrival of the Cliff Pavilion, which was built in 1931 (later demolished in 1974).

This postcard follows on from last week, capturing a view, that has remained virtually unchanged for a century.
The photograph is looking West from East Hill at Dovercourt Bay, towards the Bandstand, which was enclosed later in that year and completely removed in 1931, (to be replaced by the Cliff Pavilion).
In the "close-up" a hut and wheelbarrow can be seen, possibly marking the commencing of work. that needed to be completed. I also like the comments on the back of the card, about the "this being the nicer side of Dovercourt" I wonder what the "bad" side was ?
