Opening of the Model Yachting Lake Dovercourt (Wallis 1923).
With high unemployment in the 1920’s the Harwich Town Council claimed grants from central Government’s to reduce the unemployment rate, with up to 75% of the costs covered to improve the sea front facilities at Dovercourt. The model yacht pond was built with the help of these grants and opened in 1923. it was very popular and could be used freely by members of the public except when the Model Yacht Club was racing – Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons and evenings
