The "Market" from Market Street, Harwich (1937)
Prior to the outbreak of World War Two in 1939, the area around Market Street and King's Quay Street in Harwich was a busy commercial hub of the town. However few photos and postcards exist of the market itself, as it was deemed to be a “local working area” as opposed to a tourist attraction. However shoppers would come from far and wide, with late night openings and weekend spectaculars, to entice some retail therapy. The market itself, dates back to the 18th Century.
